This evening I found a moment where my own practice briefly crossed with another artist’s: Wade Guyton, and a detail from his work from 2011, fifteen years before mine.
His piece, “Untitled (Joseph Cataldi),” took a photo of a male figure from an existing book and ran it through an inkjet printer, letting the printer’s own misprint become part of the final image. Mine works a similar way — a male figure layered and obscured.
Fifteen years apart, but from where I’m standing, there’s a real kinship between the two pieces, if not the artists. I find that fascinating.
